Peru 2010

|
Jan 31st, 2010 Woke up this morning thinking it is my last day in Peru. I have covered a lot of ground, gone from hot weather to cool back to hot again. What a trip, but it isn't over yet. This morning would be the Tour of Lima. The first stop the Coast. This particular spot is dedicated to Peruvian Love. They have contests there to see who can kiss the longest.
In the middle of a residential section there is an area of ruins that went on for mile. For a moment, I thought I was transported back to Egypt. Mud brick buildings, almost pyramid like. It was then off to the San Francisco Church. Saint Francis de Assisi visited this church. I had no idea when I saw his church in Assisi, but apparently he traveled a lot and had a following in Peru. The church was stunning and below the church, there were catacombs.
The city went to build a park and while working on it, they discovered the City wall that used to surround Lima.
